(Read Chapters 4, 5 & 6 from Ray of Hope for Peace by Ray Madaghiele)
PAST LESSON #1: Courageously I find the gift in every challenge.
PAST LESSON #2: My feelings of love for life, energize me and are very catching!
THIS LESSON #3: I’m a light in this world, and I’m on!
HEROES! Who do you find heroic?___________________________________
Why? Did they overcome insurmountable odds? Accomplish great feats? Demonstrate great values?
What does it take to be a hero? Perhaps, not wanting to be one . . . ? Jesus said there was no greater love than to lay down your life for your friends (John 15:13).
Todd Beamer lay down his life for his friends. He was one of those who rushed the terrorists on United Flight 93 on 9-11, causing it to crash in a Pennsylvania field. Now, Lisa, his wife, is carrying on, writing that she is living with hope because of the heavenly, eternal perspective God has given her. She says that her hope comes from knowing she has a sovereign, loving God who is in control of every event in our lives. Lisa is heroically keeping her faith through her trust in a “Sovereign” power (outer, controlling, absolute). That is perfect for her.
Todd, unlike many who seek their moment of glory in the lights to gain fame and fortune, did not choose to be a hero. He became one because of his selfless, courageous, imaginative expression of the Presence that was within him.
QUESTION #11: Can you see the difference between the “God” of Lisa and the “God” of Todd? And what does this mean to you, your life, your future?
Jesus is, to me, a man who lived with ultimate heroism. Why? He gave his life for His friends to illustrate that right consciousness can lead to deathlessness. Buddha said that the vigilant person, meditating earnestly to attain nirvana, will go beyond death, attaining the highest joy and freedom.
QUESTION #12: How did Jesus become a hero? How does this relate to you? Here’s an answer: By totally disavowing that it was He who was being what He was being. He said that it was the Father within that was doing the work.
As in Him, the Presence is within us as the life and intelligence that “works” us.
Your lamp won’t light if not plugged in. But then it can be adjusted bright or dim or off! Our systems can apply that inner Father-Power in various ways to make things happen in this world. Charles Fillmore identified them with the disciples (The 12 powers). Some of them are the ability to say no, to get organized, to image new ideas, to love like the sun shines, and others. So we experiment in our lives. Jesus reminded us to put our light on a lamp stand and let it shine bright for all to see, not under a bushel basket.
QUESTION #13: What’s the secret in really letting your light shine?
Another answer: Give up your ego self for the power of your God Self. That is: Let go and let God—choose to align with the energy of joyful well-being and let the worrisome ego self go! Holy Cow and Come’on, you say. What of me will be left? I’ll tell you: The Hero. Your own unique and wondrous Self.
EXERCISES FOR EGOLESSNESS #14:
Who would you be if you suddenly were not the personality you perceive yourself to be? To see yourself in a new light and let go of everything you feel has given you security as a person, from childhood on.
When listening to others, stop planning your next words, and really listen to them, instead of being so excited about what you are thinking that you just must interrupt them.
If a person proved to you that they were Jesus Christ, saying you could have kingdom-of-heaven peace, happiness and so-called miracle-working power—if you would totally release your present life right now—would you? (Sid “the Buddha” did!)
Your light shines to the measure of your egolessness, and the delightful expression of your soul-gifts for the benefit of other people. Does your “way of being” automatically enroll people, causing them to feel better just by being around you? In essence, do you light up a room when you enter it? Did you know that a cure for your unhappiness or depression can happen by systematically and freely helping others in some way? Yes, it’s that simple!
I have grown to understand that no vision manifests without people helping people. It is through our relationships that we discover our innate spiritual essence. (ROHFP: Page 56)
HERE’S YOUR RAY OF HOPE LIGHT BEAM!
I’m a light in this world, and I’m on!
(Jesus, this is me checking in to let you know: “I’m on!”)
