Which of these 5 human values is most important to you: Love, Peace, Truth, Right Conduct, or Nonviolence?
Ray and I recently chose "Peace" as the most important value to us, and participated wholeheartedly in the
Walk for Values USA 2012 event in Tempe, Arizona, on Saturday, January 21, sponsored by the Sathya Sai Organization. More than 700 people registered to walk for their "favorite" value. This was not a protest, demonstration, or rally -- just a great opportunity to be a "ray of hope" by focusing on some very positive ideas that can make a difference in our world.
When I am surrounded by positive people, it always opens my heart--makes me feel happier, more generous, and more grateful. I even had fun having my face painted with a heart and a peace symbol. The Walk for Values was my opportunity to practice being more peaceful that day, with the intention of continuing to practice Peace in my everyday life.
Here are some of the sub-values of Peace that I am working to live more fully: Balance of Nature and technology, calmness, concentration, contentment, equality of opportunity, equanimity, faithfulness, gratitude, happiness, humility, optimism, patience, reflection, self-acceptance, self-confidence, self-control, self-discipline, self-esteem, self-respect, self-satisfaction.
The value that I'm working on the most these days is "patience." I'm noticing that sometimes I become frustrated and angry when people don't live up to my expectations, and when my computer doesn't respond as quickly as I want it to. At least I'm more aware of when I'm feeling impatient. I take a deep breath, recognize my thoughts that are causing those not-so-good feelings, remind myself of "patience" and "peace." Then I usually feel better--a good sign that I'm making progress.
Which value (or sub-value) is the most challenging for you? How do you overcome it?
